CORPORATE DINING FACILITIES Corporate dining
facilities share the same problems as do most restaurants and a review of those
design considerations is presented in the RESTAURANT tutorial.
In addition to use for
dining, corporate cafeterias may also serve as a place for general employee
meetings as they are frequently the largest spaces in the facility. On these
occasions the acoustical treatments that reduce noise levels can be customized
to provide passable if not excellent AUDITORIUM qualities if that use is
anticipated in the design or adjustments are made in an existing space.
Since the companies that own them subsidize many of these facilities, a
pleasant dining environment will encourage its use and help to minimize the
subsidy burden. Noise levels are an important ingredient in encouraging greater
employee use of the facility. Lunches taken outside the facility tend to take
longer.
During off time these spaces may also provide a forum for
impromptu meetings and here again a comfortable acoustical environment will
enable that use.
Private dining rooms designed to host onsite meetings
may require the same considerations as a conference room when used for luncheon
presentations. Both the isolation of the room and tuning it to accommodate
audio-visual or tele/video conferencing are important to allow for those
functions.
